Course Description
Grand Master Zhang Sanfeng張三豐 invented this treasurable swordsmanship of Wudang for vanquishing devils to protect Taoism. It maintains spirit, which is the origin of everything, on top priority. When the spirit is full, Tao is reached. According to Grand Master Sanfeng, learners should first practice the inner force, i.e. concentrating on the spirit and gathering the strength to reinforce Qi, and then the external force. Finally, one should exercise the movement of arms, eyes, body, and footwork of the swordsmanship. The key of ordinary swordsmanship is the union of sword and body. But, the Dan Sword demands the trinity of spirit, sword and body. The key to achieve the union of body and sword, and sword and spirit is non-stop movement. Where there is no sword movement physically, there is sword everywhere. When one understands the meaning, one can study the major doctrine. It is significant to have the multiple uses of sword and changes taken place during movements. The focus of the swordsmanship is the thirteen methods, namely, Pointing, Sliding, Sprinkling, Hanging, Moving, Wiping, Sweeping, Piercing, Cutting off, Circling, Leading, Splitting and Guiding. The movement of the sword resembles dragon dancing which joins the front and back, couples strength and gentleness. It is relaxing and charming.
