Wudang Taichi

Wudang Taichi does not only simply refer to Taichi boxing routine. It is actually a combination of three level external boxing/internal nourishing exercises—Taichi, Liangyi and Wuji. The combination forms a comprehensive practice that extends from the external to the internal, from dynamic to static, from the elementary to the advanced. Wudang Taichi and Wudang Kungfu have been practiced to defend the country in the past to self-defense in modern time. The exercise improves physical fitness, cultivates spirituality and relieves stress.

Wudang Taichi combines studies of Chinese medical energy channel with Taoist life nourishing practice. It conforms to modern life science, fitness science and defense studies, and fits Five Elements and Bagua(八卦). It features softness in continuity, solves the attack along with steps and touch, harmonizes by being easy-going in manner, practices Qi, concentrates the spirits, avoids the strength, strikes the weakness, leverages the attacker’s strength to hit back, takes control though moves late, combines the movement and steadiness, and improves body both internally and externally.

Wudang Taichi contains various internal life nourishing practices such as breathing guidance and Standing Meditation Practice. Key points of the movement are: erect the head naturally, contain the chest & straighten the back, sink the shoulder & lower the elbow, and tip the tongue against the upper jaw. When practice, it is necessary to achieve internal integration, i.e. shape-mind coordination, mind-Qi coordination and Qi-spirit coordination. The key of the motion is continuance like the floating clouds and flowing water with natural rhythm. The subtle combination of the strength and softness can counter strong attack with light movement. The movement and steadiness look like needles in the cotton as it’s the combination of strength and softness. The breath focuses naturally with deep, long and even movement reaching the root.
